The daily life of people living with HIV in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau: perspectives, challenges and vulnerabilities

ABSTRACT Objective to understand perspectives and challenges in the daily lives of people after discovery living with HIV Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, considering different contexts vulnerability. Method an exploratory-descriptive study conducted through semi-structured interviews sixteen attending a hospital city Bissau. We used thematic content analysis technique. Participants’ reports were analyzed following two empirical categories: Discovery, impacts HIV; Experience antiretroviral therapy: new beginning perspectives. Results results indicate that start disclosure diagnosis, which arouses diversity feelings behaviors. Stigma discrimination encourage adoption confidentiality about serological status, increases fragility emotional support coping seropositivity. Antiretroviral therapy was seen as hope for disease. Social vulnerability dimension stood out most, human rights violations involving verified. Conclusion implications practice makes it possible perspectives, vulnerabilities HIV. Living deserves special attention from health professionals who work care these people, highlighting contribution relevance comprehensive care, ethics subjectivity are present.
